PREP DIVISION
COLTS 14, CHARGERS 10 In a battle for the top spot in the PREP Division, the Colts outlasted the Chargers 14-10. Colts F Matt Fricke had his best game of the season with eight points and seven rebounds. The Colts defense got strong support from guards Aidan Davis and Ian Hoge as they held the Charger guards to just one field goal.
The Raiders were able to move the ball well and get several open looks against the Bears but too many shots fell in-and-out for the hard luck Raiders. Danny Ervin played tough for the Raiders and finished with five points and six rebounds. Cameron Jajonie added three rebounds in the loss. The Bears trailed 5-4 at halftime but came alive in the 3rd quarter as Hunter Kaplan and Sam Sheinbaum scored four points each. Sheinbaum also went 3-4 from the FT Line.
For the second consecutive game, the Falcons held their opponent to just five points. Falcon guard Blake Zamler took advantage of the absence of Knights top defender Markis Alexander (flu) and scored a season high 17pts. Teammate Nick Cherney had his best game of the season with four points and four assists--all to Zamler. The Knights played as hard as they could and never quit. Sam Goodman played his best game of the season with five steals and two points. Roger Pawlowski also impressed many with his improved defense. Roger had three rebounds and two blocks! PRO DIVISION
BULLS 31, PISTONS 27 Playing with just five players, the Pistons played some tough defense against the Bulls but fell just short in their first game of the year. Pistons guard Jake Kovacs scored 18pts and Max Clark added the other nine for the Pistons. Meanwhile, six of the nine Bulls players scored and the team shot a strong 80% from the line (4-5).
CELTICS 34, SPURS 32 In what may have been the most exciting and well played game Saturday, the Celtics hung on for a 2-point win after a last second in-bounds play by the Spurs fell just short. With 4.4 seconds left, Spurs coach George Yarberry called time-out for a last second shot. The Spurs ran the Wheel Play to almost perfection. But the in-bound pass to David Robinson was a touch late and he never got a clean touch of the ball. The Celtics were paced by the defense of Garrett Folbe who had four blocks, four steals and 11 points. ABL Rookie Ben Gregory paced the Celtics with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
THUNDER 37, CAVALIERS 36 The Thunder built a 37-30 lead with just three minutes left but couldn't work the clock as the Thunder scored six straight points in making a late game surge. Thunder forward Ben Nepa played a strong game for the Thunder with 14 rebounds and seven points while teammate Liam Neel added four points and three assists. Grant Gilbert paced the Thunder with 14pts. The Thunder led at the half 17-14 as the rebounding of Erik Goldbaum and Max Rosenfeld limited the Thunder to just one shot on most of their possessions.

COLLEGE DIVISION
HAWKEYES 28, GATORS 26 The Hawkeyes survived an amazing Gator comeback to stay unbeaten in the College Division (3-0). Trailing 28-14 at the start of the fourth quarter, The Gators went on a 12-0 run to close out the game. Paced by Ari Singer's six second half points along with big baskets from Keith Schmidt and Dylan Wittenberg, The Gators got within one point in the last minute of play. However, they couldn't get that one last point they needed. Had they done better at the FT Line (they shot 33%at 5-15), The Gators may have pulled it out! Sam Luttman led the Gators attack with 7pts. The Hawkeyes, who crored only two points the entire second half, were led by Dean Hysni's 13pts.
The Spartans finally put a complete team effort together and stunned the previously unbeaten Hoosiers 41-39 at Covington School last weekend. Paced by Justin Miller's 19pts, six of the eight Spartans scored. Spartan F Alexander Maxwell hit two big shots in the 4th quarter and clearly played his best game of the season! The Spartans held Hoosier C Devin Stacey (17pts) scoreless in the first half by Fronting him defensively and double teaming him when he had the ball. The strategy kept the Spartans in the game during the first half as they trailed by just one, 14-13, at the break.
While the Tar heels slowed the talented Grizzlies backcourt of Cooper Mixon and Geordan Duncan, they had no answer for Joey Wolberg and Nick Winkler. Each player scored a season high 10 points and kept the Tar Heels 10-12 points behind for most of the game. The Tar Heels started slow and made little, if any, effort to rebound in the first half. However, Coach Sara Shulte had them fired up in the second half and after consecutive baskets by Jackson Gurman and Hank Peters-Wood, cut the lead to just eight at 30-22. Connor Shannon had a season high six rebounds, five in the second half!
BLUE DEVILS 35 CHIPPEWAS 24 The Blue Devils kept pace with the Hawkeyes and remained undefeated in the 2012 season after a strong defensive effort against the Chippewas. The Blue Devils held the Chippewas scoreless until 5:49 left in the first half when Josh Kam made a transition lay-up to make the score 14-2. The Chippewas regrouped in the second half and outscored the Blue Devils 16-13. But they couldn't close the gap that opened early in the first half. Kam led the Chippewas with 17pts. The Blue Devils started fast, jumping out to a 8-0 lead after the first quarter. Jordan Salesin and Grant Ellis combined to score 16 of their 20 points in the first half. Jamie Blatnikoff scored the other Blue Devil basket in the first half as the BDs led 22-8 at the break.
WOLVERINES 22, HUSKIES 17 The Wolverines won their second straight game by playing defense and keeping their offense under control. Wolverines guard Matthew Frank worked hard for his 12pts and played some solid defense on the Huskies talented guards. Jake Maudie and Josh Seigel battled hard against the Huskies 5'11 C Brad Bosart. Bosart (8pts, 12 rebounds) was scoreless in the second half after scoring on some beautiful post moves in the first. Shay Lusky added six points for the Huskies.
